The vast majority of these programmes are recorded in Israel … I visit the places where the people live. But for today’s programme, I met my guest, who is called Gefen, in London. She was here from Tel Aviv during the summer working with a team of fellow missionaries from Jews for Jesus – an organisation that works in major cities around the world to share their faith with Jewish people. However, the reality is they talk to far more non-Jews! So, I asked Gefen, what’s it like going out onto the streets of London wearing a Jews for Jesus T shirt handing out tracts and talking to people about Jesus?

We are called to be salt and light, to live and think differently, so how come so many christians on all sides of the political divides (on both sides on the Atlantic) are succumbing to the anger and rage characteristic the spirit of this world?

A question that came to mind as I sat contemplating – Is the world living on borrowed time?  The influx of Muslims into the West and Europe in particular has drawn out a variety of comments and suggestions.  Some see this move as a potential Islamic invasion seeking world domination.  Some suggest it will lead to the collapse of Islam as Muslims convert to Christianity.  Others shuffle about in the middle and suggest it could go either way.  There appears to be no clear consensus of opinion.  Most certainly the movement of Muslims has changed the world, even if we are not quite sure how.

In the last few decades, some Christian theologians and preachers have insisted that the people and land of Israel are not significant for either the New Testament or the Church.

An important and timely web presentation. CLICK HERE to see it.

Most of us Christians are very set in our ways. Once we decide on a particular viewpoint, we tend to cling onto this for dear life and not budge an inch.

When it comes to polemical discussions about Jesus’ messiahship, Messianic Jews are often accused of taking verses from the Hebrew Bible out of context, and deliberately christianising them, so that they appear to refer to the man from Nazareth.

(Here is a short story I wrote fourteen years ago in memory of my great-aunt Bessie. I have re-published it to give some background to the London Jewish walks I will be recommencing, starting on March 6th)

It was significant that Bessie's birthday this year fell on Passover, as her story was as much a triumph over adversity as her forbears' celebrated release from bondage. As was customary, the extended family were gathered, a pyramid of generations, with Bessie at the apex and a multitude of tiny ones, crammed at opposite ends of a table that grew healthily each year. It was also customary to invite a stranger to the seder table and this year Bessie had intrigued us with an elderly gentleman, apparently a friend from the day centre, who was sitting politely and quietly to her left, next to Sadie, my mother. I was there as family scribe. To me she had entrusted her many secrets and to me she had given the responsibility to tell them, well all bar one, anyway.

Pentecostal theologian RT Kendall says that while he loves the King James Version, it translates some things inaccurately—leading to equally inaccurate theology. In this sermon on the Holy Spirit, Kendall points to one such verse and clears up a common misconception about the Spirit. Don't miss it.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TEACH US ABOUT THE DANGER OF PRIDE?

By Peter Sammons

The Kitchen Table

My mother used to quote scripture across the kitchen table at her children, and especially at me. One of the verses she would quote (and this may say something about me as a boy) was “pride comes before a fall”. She was paraphrasing Proverbs 16:18. In various translations, the verse tells a consistent story:

KJV

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

NKJV

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

NIV

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

We need to focus on this reality of ‘pride’. I’m going to ignore ‘haughty spirit’, largely, because it is virtually the same thing; if you are proud then you tend to have a haughty spirit. Haughty comes from the word ‘high’ – haughty people look down on others. So haughtiness and pride are really two sides of the same coin. Whilst haughtiness never has a good connotation, in some people’s estimation “pride” does have a good connotation. So let us focus on this reality of pride.  Our key text is

Proverbs 16:18: Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Destruction’ and a ‘fall’, of course, are two things we want to avoid, if we are wise and sensible. Destruction means loss. A fall means injury – and perhaps loss as well. In both cases that loss may well be eternal, as we shall consider from a specifically Scriptural vantage point. So let us reflect for a few moments on pride, before we turn to consider two Scriptures in depth.

Of course there can be a good connotation around the idea of pride; it can be something quite reasonable. We speak of taking a pride in our appearance, or taking pride in our work. In both cases this carries about it the idea of not being sloppy – and doing things as well as we can so that others get the kudos (or due recognition) that goes with our good work. If you do well in your exams, your school gets the kudos – for having taught well. Your teacher gets the kudos for being a good teacher. And you get the deserved reputation of being a good student, hard-working and capable.

Jordan Peterson explains how young people can challenge the "stupid, moronic, and pointless politically correct ideas" in the work environment...

A fringe meeting hosted a call for Labour to debate whether the Holocaust actually happened, the libelling of Israel as a racist, Nazi, apartheid and colonialist state and a demand that Jews who supported Israel should be kicked out of the Labour party.

What was so chilling was not just that the meeting, called Free Speech on Israel (aka Safe Space for Hate) provided bigots with the opportunity to spew their bile. It cheered and applauded them.

Israeli-American author Miko Peled told it Labour members should support the freedom to “discuss every issue, whether it’s the Holocaust, yes or no, whether it’s Palestine liberation – the entire spectrum. There should be no limits on the discussion.”

Michael Kalmanovitz, a member of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, called for two pro-Israeli groups to be expelled from the party. He said: “The thing is, if you support Israel, you support apartheid. So what is the JLM (Jewish Labour Movement) and Labour Friends of Israel doing in our party? Kick them out.” The Mirror reported: “Loud cheers, applause and calls of ‘throw them out’ erupted in the room of around a hundred activists in response.”

Note: During the conversation, I mentioned how the JW must use the KJV Bible when reading John 8:58. I say this not because I only use the KJV Bible, but because the Watchtower has actually changed John 8:58 (and several other verses) to suit their theology. So, since the KJV Bible is one of the versions used by JW's, I encouraged her to use that version.

Whilst most of the western world was preparing to celebrate Christmas and the nation of Israel was getting ready for Hanukkah, the United Nations Security Council on Friday 23rd December, 2016 passed a shocking and biased resolution against Israel. To make matters worse the British government voted for this resolution and according to news reports British diplomats helped to draft the resolution with their American counterparts. The Resolution was passed by fourteen nations including Britain and is a clear departure of US foreign policy. The Obama administration abstained in the vote leaving Israel to the mercy of her enemies. Previously US administrations would have voted against such a bias resolution and Britain could have vetoed it as they are a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Instead the hard-working Jewish settlers in the mountains of Judea are singled out for being the obstacle to peace. If Donald Trump decides to fulfil his campaign promise and move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem it will go a long way in countering this shameful UN resolution. It will send a message to the rest of the International community that the world’s only superpower recognises Israeli sovereignty over her eternal city.

The Church that is described in The Bible is very different of most of the churches we have today. The Church that the Bible describes is a church that was not focused on anything else but God. Their goal was to build each other up and go out to make disciples. Pastor Francis Chan is talking about several problems that the Church is having right now. Pastors who do not preach the true gospel, Christians who do not desire to make unbelievers disciples of Christ; those are huge problems that need to be fixed and changed. The first Church was so touched by The Holy Spirit that they were willing to endure the most painful death for their faith. Most churches today have lost the call of God and have given themselves to materials and temporary things. The Church worries more about the tithes and offering than making disciples. It is time for a changement in the church because many are not ready for the Lord's coming. JESUS IS COMING BACK!! JUDGEMENT DAY IS COMING!! DO NOT TAKE CHURCH AND GOD FOR GRANTED

This is a very well done 2007 documentary with some great archival footage. For it not only documents the war itself, but more importantly events leading up to is and the dilemmas faced by main characters on both sides of the conflict -- Israeli PM Levi Eshkol on one side and Egyptian leader Nasser on the other. Both of these leaders were exposed to some pretty intense pressures and the documentary does a terrific job retracing all the steps, exposing the sources of pressure, motivations behind them, etc.

“The Miracle Moment” 20 Years Later

January 17, 1993

William Jefferson Clinton was preparing for his inaugural, the Cowboys beat the 49ers, and God showed Himself powerful and contemporary in a Sunday School class at Houston’s First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

The lesson that morning was from Psalm 103, primarily verses 1-5.  David is talking to himself and instructs himself to “Bless the Lord” which means give praise or thanks to God.  He then lists some reasons for himself to do so.

He (God) forgives all my sin; He heals all my disease; He redeems my life from the grave, the pit, destruction; He crowns me with love and compassion, loving kindness; and He restores my youth like the eagle.

I stood to teach the class of 150 or more on that morning.  I had never been more emotionally drained than I was that morning.  I had never had less faith than I did that morning.  The pit David described was swallowing me.

But God (aren’t those great words from the Scripture?) changed everything.  Let me explain…

The Back Story

In 1990, I was serving as the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas and had been for some time.  First Baptist was a great church and an historical Southern Baptist Church. In January, I contracted a flu virus that ultimately penetrated the mylan sheath of my vocal folds and damaged the nerve tissue beyond repair.

Ayalon explains why President Trump's promise to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, Israel's Capital, is firmly based on the ongoing historical, religious, cultural and physical connection of the Jews to their holy capital. Ayalon explains that in the last 2000 years empires came and left, conquered colonized and occupied Jerusalem - but they have never turned it into their capital. And while Jerusalem is holy also to Muslims, it's importance is secondary, and even when praying on Temple Mount they turn their backs to the Dome of the Rock and face Mecca.

They try of the support to their cause, but for them, Albert Einstein unfortunately himself was aware of this during his live reason why he said this quite interesting sentence: "Taking into account of such harmony in the cosmos, that I recognize with my limited human brain, there are people who say that there is no God. But what really annoys me is that they quote me to support their point of view. "(Albert Einstein, extract of the book to Alice Calaprice"The Expanded Quotable Einstein", 2000, p.214)

Part 1 of the series Church History. This is an intensely listenable look at the the Christian Church down the ages, providing powerful messages for our own times. Many church members know little or nothing about the story of Christianity between the New Testament period and today. They therefore may not realise how much they have been influenced by traditions developed during that time. These can have both a negative and positive benefit. Negative, because ‘those who forget history are condemned to relive it’. Most of the mistakes we make and errors we fall into have happened before and we can learn from our forefathers to avoid them. Positive, because we have such a rich heritage it would be folly to ignore. We can draw inspiration and examples from the spiritual giants who went before us and, after all, we can look forward to meeting them personally in glory.

You have a vision; clearly it marks another 'end-time' strand as God seeks to prepare His people for what is soon to come upon this world. " Alistair

My first thought was like everyone's, the Old Testament (The Tanakh) is for the Jews and the New Testament (B'rit Chadashah) is for the Christians. My dad had it right. Jesus is on every page of the Old Testament; you just have to look. To prove my dad's point, look where Jesus is hiding in plain sight in the very first word of the Bible. Do you think we all are just going to start raping and pillaging just because we don't have a book telling us what to do? Are you afraid of that? I'm not because that's not what we are going to do. Yes, Nazis were bad but there were Christian Nazis and atheist Nazis. So I don't see... What are you so afraid of?" To this Ravi quickly replied, "Do you lock your doors at night?" The 800th year anniversary of Magna Carta (The Great Charter) represents an important opportunity to reassert the pivotal role that Christianity played in shaping this key contribution to the development of human rights. However, despite the fact that Stephen Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury, played a central role in drafting the charter, which was signed by King John at Runnymede, Surrey – with at least 11 other bishops present, it is clear that there is a battle raging today – about yesterday – for tomorrow. And we can expect human rights campaigners, secularists and politicians to seek to ignore or diminish the influence of the bible in the creation of this historic document which refers to God as ‘the source of all liberties’. This session will: explore the biblical and historical roots of Magna Carta; chart its influence upon ideas of freedom, human rights and civil liberties; and review the contemporary trajectory of human rights discourse

When Holocaust survivors speak, we should listen. In this video, survivors and their families share hard-earned lessons and shed light onto a deeper meaning of “Never Again.” Hitler’s Holocaust is one of the most iconic examples of human cruelty, systematic desensitization and social manipulation in human history. That such brutality could possibly take place in our modern world is a testament to the power of a lie repeated often enough. Humanity must learn from the horrors of our past so as not to repeat them time and again.

How a modern-day massacre happened — and why America sat on the sidelines. In December, after an extended siege and a month of intense fighting, Bashar al-Assad’s forces seized control of the rebel-held eastern half of Aleppo. A withdrawal agreement allowed thousands of rebels and civilians to evacuate — but not before Assad’s forces massacred and tortured an unknown number of people. The Assad victory was a humanitarian disaster and a devastating blow to the embattled anti-government rebels — and something that was in the works for over a year. The above video explains why.

In the time of Noah, people were going about their daily lives, not mindful of the impending destruction. Like them, are we ignoring warnings of God's coming judgment? The Bible gives us clear signs of the last days. Did you know the Scriptures say we will see: • Flippant use of God's name • Money-hungry preachers and rampant hypocrisy in the church • Wars and rumors of wars • Denial of a global flood
But surely no educated person could believe that Noah and his ark ever really existed. Wouldn't it be impossible to fit millions of species of animals into one boat? And what evidence is there (if any) for a worldwide catastrophic flood? However...what if it did all happen exactly as the Bible says? What would that mean? Who was Noah, and why is the amazing account of his life so relevant to you in the 21st century? Don't be caught unaware. Time may be very short. Will you be ready? A movie by Ray Comfort. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Terror struck Tel Aviv, Israel on the night of Wednesday June 8. Folks were minding their own business in a cafe when two Palestinian men dressed as Hasidic Jews opened fire. Four people were killed and several others were wounded. It is reminiscent of other recent terror attacks, such as the ones in Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium. When these two other attacks occurred, folks rushed to social media with words of support. The hashtags #JeSuisParis and #JeSuisBrussels became popular trends on Twitter. It was cool and fashionable for people to show how distraught they were over those senseless acts of violence. The senseless act of violence the Israelis suffered, however, didn’t catch on the same way. I couldn’t help but wonder why. Is it because these kind of attacks are so common over there? Or is there another reason behind it?

This is part one of a two-part series. The second part will examine what we Arabs can do differently today.

In the current state of the relationship between the Arab world and Israel, we see a patchwork of hostility, tense peace, limited cooperation, calm, and violence. We Arabs managed our relationship with Israel atrociously, but the worst of all is the ongoing situation of the Palestinians.

Our first mistake lasted centuries, and occurred well before Israel's declaration of independence in May 1948. It consisted of not recognizing Jews as equals. As documented by a leading American scholar of Jewish history in the Muslim world, Mark R. Cohen, during that era, "Jews shared with other non-Muslims the status of dhimmis [non-Muslims who have to pay protection money and follow separate debasing laws to be tolerated in Muslim-controlled areas] ... New houses of worship were not to be built and old ones could not be repaired. They were to act humbly in the presence of Muslims. In their liturgical practice they had to honor the preeminence of Islam. They were further required to differentiate themselves from Muslims by their clothing and by eschewing symbols of honor. Other restrictions excluded them from positions of authority in Muslim government".

David Wilkerson was a legendary preacher who truly did hear from God, and a remarkable prophecy that he gave about 40 years ago is coming to pass right now. After watching a video on our new YouTube channel, a viewer mentioned that something my wife and I were talking about sounded exactly like something that David Wilkerson had said close to 40 years ago. I was skeptical at first, but I checked it out. And it turned out that this viewer was exactly correct. Without even knowing it, for years I have been preaching virtually the exact same message that David Wilkerson prophesied nearly four decades ago, and today this prophecy is being fulfilled right in front of our eyes. In his vision, Wilkerson saw the rise of two "super churches" in the last days. The first "super church" would be deeply apostate, and it would include both Protestants and Catholics. It would prominently use the name of Jesus Christ, but it would be "antichrist and political in many of its activities."

For years, Muslim authorities carrying out illegal construction projects atop the Temple Mount have unceremoniously dumped tons of earth and debris containing treasures of Jewish history outside the Old City walls. Groups of Israeli archeologists have struggled to sift through the remains, but it is a daunting task. But it is also a critical task. These remains that are so flippantly, but also so foolishly, exposed to the world by the Muslims are some of the best evidence to debunk Islam’s claims to the Bible’s holiest site.

Our God is a God of history. He creates stories for us, sequences of events that teach us more about Him. Many of these are in His book, the Bible. The problem is that we are not always aware of the big picture, the back story behind some of these events. A very good example is the Feast of Pentecost. We all know what happened to that group of Jesus’ disciples as they were gathered together in Jerusalem.

As evangelical Christians, we have been called to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). There have been multiple interpretations to that call of prayer — pray that Christ’s Messianic rule would be established; pray that God’s people would live in security; pray that Israel would be allowed to live in security; pray for justice for Palestinians; and pray for reconciliation between Jews and Palestinians … The list is long and each call is valid; but a new application has been added. ...

The new United Nations Security General, António Guterres, has enraged the Palestinian Authority after making statements about the Temple Mount and the way Israel is treated by UN member states. The Palestinian outrage began on Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January), when Guterres was given an impassioned speech about the Holocaust in the UN General Assembly. This was a powerful speech that addressed the root cause of the Holocaust – anti-Semitism. He looked back at anti-Semitism of the past and showing the constant instances of anti-Semitism throughout history, from ancient times until today.

While the Palestinian Authority, who continue those anti-Semitic attitudes, were likely to be outraged by the whole speech. (After all, Mahmoud Abbas wrote an entire book that tried to deny/revise the Holocaust). There was one line, however, that caused Palestinian outrage to overflow. That line was when Guterres said, “Imperial Rome not only destroyed the temple in Jerusalem, but also made Jews pariahs in many ways.” He pointed out the historic fact that there was a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and that Jews lived in Jerusalem long before the Palestinians were ever on the scene. Abbas’ Fatah party responded with outrage claiming that his comments were “an assault on Palestinian’s rights to the city”.

What's going on? Two major events in Paris last week. Here are two news articles about last Friday.

Paris conference held on Israel-Palestine peace process

Has no-one made the connection? The story continues ...

As Britain mourns those murdered in the terrorist atrocity in Manchester and treats the injured, antisemites have poured onto social media to blame the attack on a murderous Jewish conspiracy.

All of us at Campaign Against Antisemitism deplore the sickening attack on children and their families in Manchester last night. As the details of the attacker’s cowardice and barbarity became clear, and we heard the stories of families never to be reunited and casualties whose lives will be forever changed, we also began to see the all-too-familiar phenomenon of people rushing to social media to blame Jews.

Whilst politicians urged unity and “#WeStandTogether” trended on social media, people from around the world took to Twitter, Facebook and other platforms to claim that the suicide bombing was a plot by Jewish conspirators to fuel wars against oil-rich Muslim states, or some other variant of the depraved conspiracy myths that place Jews at the centre of the world’s every ill.

On Twitter, “Carlos” wrote: “Zionists just bombed Manchester”. “Geeky Artist Arab Woman” opined that Zionists are “the sources of all terrorism #Manchester”. “Isaac Mintman” posted his theory that “Zionists and fascists want more Islamic terror attacks in hopes of sparking civil war”. “Mama Snarf” replied to a tweet from an Israeli minister: “Most terror attacks ordered by Israel anyway. Manchester don’t need anymore Zionists”. “Dowlut Nawshad” tweeted: “The World should drive out the ‘Zionists debts theft genocide false flags monetary system$’ they ordered and responsible for Manchester.”

The following is a (draft) introduction to my next book, LIVIN' THE LIFE. We are hoping to publish the book through a CROWDFUNDING initiative, with supporters pre-ordering a batch of ten books, in order to help with the publishing costs. If you can help in this way, please click here.

"Sometimes I wish I knew nine years ago what I know now. Yet, on the other hand, it would have deprived me of an exciting journey of discovery into this wonderful world of the Hebraic. These last few years have often been like a game of snakes and ladders, with faltering steps up a slippery step-ladder but with the falls down the ‘Greecey pole’ thankfully decreasing over time. It hasn’t been perfect, because God has had a lot to contend with (my puny, aging brain), but it has been a necessary process. The fruit of this has been a collection of books that have astonishingly drawn together a community of fellow sojourners. The question is, where will this all end? When are we finally going to get it? The answer is, probably never, but at least we have ventured to the foot hills. The objective of this book is to summarise what has led me to this point in time, then suggest a route to the higher peaks. So, without further ado …

It all started in 2009 with How the Church Lost the Way, which exposed the effects of the teachings of Plato on the Western Church, right from the early 2nd century onwards. This was a revelation to most, apart from those academics who knew about this but didn’t consider it necessarily a bad thing (!) The story continued the following year when How the Church Lost the Truth introduced the simple ideas of Aristotle and highlighting the devastating effect of these teachings on the medieval Church onwards. In these two volumes the problems were laid out, (added to by the twenty wide-reaching essays in the Bishop’s New Clothes a few years later). We were able to see the causes for the sorry state of much of today’s Church. But what could we do about this?

In 2011 after a lot of agonising and uncertainty, To Life was published. The trepidation was because this book ventured into some new areas and made suggestions that went completely against the grain of current Christian thinking and practices. Was it a step too far? Apparently not (though some may disagree). The effect it has had on individuals and congregations has been very startling, with a sense that the madness is not just all mine, it has now been sharedWelcome to my world!

Firstly, it provided an initial working definition of what is Hebraic. The starting point is having a faith in God that underpins our wisdom, which compels us to perform our deeds (rather than thinking or debating or arguing about such things). This definition is gradually refined as God reveals more and more. It bucks the trend of current perceptions that define Hebraic in terms of externals, of practices, rituals and Jewish cultural trappings. Instead the true Hebraic understanding is of an internal mindset, that of Jesus and his disciples and in fact of the Jews who preceded him and inhabited the pages of the Hebrew Bible. In other words, rather than dwelling on festivals, eating habits and vocabulary, we consider how those early Jews thought and acted on those thoughts. Following on from that I contrasted Greek and Hebraic thinking and came to the following conclusions:

The first was that we should live Hebraically, focussing on our relationships. There should be reverence for God, a total respect and unquestioning faith in God in every situation. We should favour small groups, with an emphasis on personal relationships within the Church and nurture family relationships, with the realisation that God’s blessings flow more freely through His covenant people.

The second was that we should think Hebraically, focusing on understanding God’s provisions for us. We should consider living by faith, a total reliance on God’s promises for our needs. We should have total trust in the Bible, treating God’s Word as precious and endeavouring to study it wholeheartedly. We should also focus on the real Jesus, understanding him in his Jewish context.

The third was that we should act Hebraicallyliving lives of truth, joy and purpose. There is the importance of good conduct, showing the World by our actions that there is something different about us. We should seek an understanding of the concept of One New Man and making adjustments if necessary. Then there is unity without compromise, supporting our Christian family without condoning error and heresy.

The Hebraic is about man and God and can be better understood through this set of contrasts.

  • The Greek mind says that man is at the centre of life; the Hebraic mind says that God is at the centre of life.
  • The Greek mind says that the things of God must be deduced from our logical minds; the Hebraic mind says that the things of God can only be understood by faith and revelation.
  • The Greek mind says that we should strive for knowledge about God; the Hebraic mind says that we should know God.

It’s all Hebraic. It’s a lost art for some, to others it’s already an ever-present reality. It’s simply how we can best act out our part of the Divine drama, the everlasting love story of God and His people. To do so we need to discover our role and purpose and see where we fit in and then make sure we are on cue and don’t fluff our lines! It’s all about relationship, man and God, God and Man, man and man. It’s as simple as that.

So why another book? Livin’ the Life! A predictable title, yet given an edge by a substituted apostrophe, which also provides its own subtext, a more meaningful instruction, live in The Life.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:12)

This is completing the story introduced by To Life!, L’Chaim, a celebration of possibilities created by thinking differently, Hebraically. It is time to widen our scope and push out these ideas into the wider Christian World, where I believe they belong.

This book will explore major (and minor) facets of Christian life today, but with Hebraic eyes. A toolset is going to be created, not just from ideas already developed, but through a deeper trawl through Hebraic understandings. What will result will be, at least, food for thought, but perhaps more so, perhaps there will be a nudge towards a life lived … in The Life, a model where we should all be in Jesus, despite the challenges presented by 21st Century society."

Steve Maltz

Some have seized on attacks by Islamists to smear all religions by association. But the Christian faith can play a key role in awakening the West from its slumber ...

“Hey Average Joe, did you see this map?

credit: Emaze

“Look where Israel ought to be it says Palestine. And it says it was called Palestine 4000 years ago! It’s as if the Jews never lived there.  Can that be right?”

“Well gee,”

replied Average Joe,

“It must be right.  After all it is in the Ancient Egypt section of the British Museum!”

Once again Britain shows her antisemitic sentiment.

I had the opportunity to visit the British Museum in May.  Loved the Egypt exhibit.  We had spent four days in Egypt in 2009.  Sadly the last safe year for tourists.  Egypt is an extraordinary country with thousands of years of history-glorious history.  We saw the Pyramids and the Sphinx and rode on camels!   Think about the ingenuity of the people who built these monuments, only with manpower, no machines.  We visited The Temple of Karnac and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.  We went into the crypts.  Filled with marvelous murals that speak to religious beliefs. We walked through the Egyptian Museum-in Egypt!

And then the Egypt Exhibit in the British Museum.

And the map jumped out at me. “Palestine”?

How could that be?

So I wrote to the museum to express my concern

It's official! Well, that is, according to the report released by former senior judge, Baroness Butler-Sloss. The thin end of the wedge is getting thicker...

The reproductions of the 50-foot arch that stood at the Temple of Baal in Palmyra, Syria, that will be erected in New York City and London next month will only be the first of many. As you will see below, it turns out that there are plans to put arches in hundreds more cities all over the globe. The organization behind this is the Institute of Digital Archaeology, which is a joint venture between Harvard University, the University of Oxford and Dubai's Museum of the Future. The initial arches from the Temple of Baal that will be erected in New York and London as part of UNESCO's World Heritage Week in April are intended "as a gesture of defiance", but ultimately the plan is to share this "cultural treasure" with as many cities around the planet as possible.

Let me start by saying that my upbringing was very firmly secular. My family made it clear from a young age that belief in a supreme being was the folly of the idiot or those on the lower echelons of society. We were intellectuals and therefore did not hold to any belief other than those based in ‘science’. My family were however, Jewish by race and so we did partake in the Jewish holidays and festivals and even attended the local reform synagogue on a semi-regular basis, however it was constantly affirmed that these were merely cultural exercises and nothing more.

My grandmother was a Jewish communist and was responsible for my firm Jewish identity, herself being brought up in a kosher home. However this also instilled me with socialist principles from a very young age. In fact at a young age I can remember going on Anti-War marches and even telling teachers that I was communist, laughing at those who subscribed to the Christian faith.

Despite this, since I can remember, I have had a keen interest in politics, philosophy and religion. I can remember being eager to go to synagogue at around age nine, not for religious purposes, but again for a sense of heritage. On my tenth birthday I was given a kippah by my mother and father (along with a Complete Works of Shakespeare).

A revolutionary symposium was held in the sprawling downtown Jerusalem headquarters of the World Union for Progressive Judaism this February. Meeting next to the Israel branch of the Hebrew Union College in an office building that overlooks the Old City, a collective of 20 Reform and Progressive rabbis and heads of rabbinical courts from 12 countries intensively discussed for three days shared resources and minimal standards for life cycle events — especially conversion. The major impetus of the Progressive Jewry symposium is a recently released list of criteria for acceptable non-halachic conversions that was drawn up by the civil Israeli Ministry of Interior. This list, born out of protracted legal battles, was presented to the Supreme Court in October 2014, and is slowly being discussed by Liberal Judaism’s leadership with the promise that, if the movements conform to the ministry’s criteria, presumably their converts will now be given a free pass into Israeli citizenship.

I was hoping not to have to enter this tedious debate. I am not a political animal, the machinations of man usually leave me untouched. But, I thought I'd just add a few words that may be useful to some, as the day is fast approaching for decisions. Two things have hit me regarding the verbal sniping over the last few weeks. Firstly, the 'establishment' are desperate to preserve the 'status quo' and seem to have fought a cleverly divisive campaign to force this point and thoroughly discredit their opposition with the vast tools at their disposal. Frankly it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as I feel that the public are being manipulated here, but can't put my finger on the reasons. Secondly, the Brexit campaign seems to be continually shooting itself in its foot, but perhaps that too is just a consequence of 'enemy action'.

Durham, N.C. — ON a Thursday morning a few months ago, I got a call from my doctor’s assistant telling me that I have Stage 4 cancer. The stomach cramps I was suffering from were not caused by a faulty gallbladder, but by a massive tumor. I am 35. I did the things you might expect of someone whose world has suddenly become very small. I sank to my knees and cried. I called my husband at our home nearby. I waited until he arrived so we could wrap our arms around each other and say the things that must be said. I have loved you forever. I am so grateful for our life together. Please take care of our son. Then he walked me from my office to the hospital to start what was left of my new life.

We have recently launched our Hebraic.Church initiative, based on our re-launched Saltshakers website, a nationwide grass-roots network of like-minded Christians who wish to be energised and nourished by the roots of their faith without being strangled by them.

Over the next few months Steve Maltz is willing to come to your church, fellowship, home group, coffee morning, evening soiree or even conference and local gathering to introduce this initiative in the context of either a faith-building informal testimony/talk or a series of talks/discussions on a relevant theme.

Despite a tidal wave of prejudice and negativity, faith remains the foundation of our civilisation by Michael Gove.

Jeremy Paxman was on great form last week, reminding us that when it comes to being rude to prime ministers he has no peers.

Jeremy’s rudeness is, of course, magnificently bipartisan. However elegant the sneer he displayed when asking David Cameron about Stephen Green, it was as nothing compared to the pointed disdain with which he once asked Tony Blair about his faith. Was it true, Jeremy inquired, that he had prayed together with his fellow Christian George W. Bush?

Whenever the world’s only Jewish-majority state affronts their sense of morality tens of thousands of Britons march through London. But, revealingly, they’ve turned a blind eye to Syria’s barrel-bombing of civilians and its illegal use of chemical weapons.

The moral failure of many Britons is multiplied at the United Nations, supposedly the world’s home of human rights. Over the past decade the UN has condemned Syria eight times but has 223 times attacked the nation in which, if you are Christian, homosexual or other minority, you are probably safer than anywhere in the Middle East. In his final speech as secretary-general even Ban Ki Moon admitted this imbalance was “absurd”. “Monstrous” would be my description.

The UN’s one-sided approach was on display again with a motion demanding an end to settlement-building by Israelis. Thanks to the UK and, more surprisingly, the US, it was allowed to pass. While construction in disputed territories does undermine peace prospects the focus on the issue has been engineered by Palestinians and diverts attention from their failings.

Bigger barriers to peace include polling that finds at least one million Palestinians view Islamic State positively. Then there’s Hamas, the proscribed group that runs Gaza, and its charter’s genocidal call to kill Jews. Or, if the UN is really looking for root causes, how about the antisemitic “educational” materials circulating in schools in Gaza and the West Bank?

When you are surrounded by people who want you dead, Israelis can’t be blamed for not rushing to repeat what happened after their 2005 withdrawal from Gaza. Vacated settlements became launchpads for missile attacks. I’ve visited the bomb shelters that Israeli schoolchildren scurry to when alarms sound.

What those who deserted Israel at the UN miss, including Barack Obama and Theresa May, is that today’s Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be understood within the context of the radicalisation of the region. Israel is in the front line against radical Islam and, in the words of the author Sam Harris: “We are all living in Israel, it’s just some of us haven’t realised it yet.” And the “we” includes the majority of peace-loving Muslims and other victims of Islamist terror. Israel is far from perfect but the world’s democracies should do more to understand that it has always been located in a tough neighbourhood — and never as tough or as besieged as today.

Today, as anti-Semitism, anti-Judaism and anti-Zionism mingle and mount in the nations, a pop-cultural trend is being nurtured within the Body of Christ. The fad is predicated on the idea that many of the world’s greatest injustices (chief among them, the alleged Israeli occupation of Palestine) could be decisively dealt with by pulling the pins out of the long held Biblical theology of future grace for Israel on an ethnic, national and territorial level. "The Middle East is in chaos because of the apartheid, colonialist, Zionist enterprise," the logic goes. "The best way to break the back of the regime would be to weaken its most fervent support base: ignorant Christian Zionists."

Thousands of Christians from around the world are visiting Jerusalem this week tracing the footsteps of Jesus through the cobbled winding streets of the Old City as they do every Sukkot, one of the three Jewish festivals where Jews made the pilgrimage to the Temple centuries ago, but now a UNESCO resolution negates these events ever happened. It is hardly shocking that Iran, along with several Arab countries, voted in favor of the draft resolution by the UN cultural body last week, in a move widely viewed as denying the historic and religious ties between Jews and Jerusalem.

INTRODUCTION.

Steve Chalke is a Baptist minister and an admirable campaigner for social justice. He founded a the Charity Oasis. A few years ago he adopted a progressive and liberal theology of sexuality. Recently he launched a video that was widely reported (see this link for the Church Times –  -in which he believes that an understanding of Graeco-Roman sexual culture requires that we abandon the teaching of marriage and sexual ethics as Christians have universally understood them. This essay is an answer to the issues he raises.

Steve Chalke has been doing some research into the Classical world of the Greeks and the Romans, and has come up with some discoveries that have startled him. He has found a world that as he describes was “utterly saturated with sex.” Perhaps Mr Chalke may have led a sheltered life in his reading. But this description of classical culture comes as no surprise to many.Tom Holland, in his recent book on the Romans called ‘Rubicon’, documents how even Julius Caesar put in his time as a ‘rent-boy’ to some elderly lascivious ruler, King Nikomedes of Bythinia. The shame, such as there was amongst the Romans, was not so much in the homoerotic sex; It lay more in being the ‘receptive’ partner; effeminate; humiliating....

Last September, during the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel -- an initiative of the Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum (PIEF) of the World Council of Churches, St. Thomas' Church in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, hosted an event titled "Wall Will Fall". For anyone unfamiliar with the history, legal issues, and distortions of the Israeli-Arab and Jewish-Muslim conflicts, the deeply one-sided presentations and literature of the event may seem reasonable in the lack of such a context, and this report will, therefore, attempt to rebalance the narrative.

An Arizona woman's Facebook post documenting her stunning transformation from drug addict to doting mother and aspiring prison minister has gone viral in recent days, with the woman fully crediting God for saving her life. It was Dec. 6, 2012, when Dejah Hall, 26, says she finally hit rock bottom and got the help she needed. Hall, who was addicted to meth, cocaine and heroin, said her life had spun completely out of control. "I was a monster in every sense of the word," she told KNXV-TV. Hall said that her drug addiction started with pills and "just went downhill from there," eventually leading her to heroin and meth and to a place in which she no longer cared if she lived or died. But it was a candid conversation with her grandfather that served as her final breaking point. "My grandfather was sitting in his wheelchair and he looked at me and said, 'You're hurting me, Dejah,'" Hall recalled. "I really looked at who I had become, a disgusting person."

The Foundations vision began in 2012 in mid-winter as an experiment. After six more “experiments” in subsequent years we finally feel that, with Foundations 7 this April, we have “cracked it”. We have arrived at the beginnings of a model for a different kind of Christian conference, one that is informed by Hebraic principles, rather than the rigid structures that have become the norm in the Christian world. Here’s how David Andrew, one of our Bible teachers, explained it:

This being our third 'Foundations', Agnes and I have been completely won over by the completely 'outside of the box' experience - a feature which has successively developed and improved with each year. Although we are blessed with a great many fine conferences and teachers, it's not normal for Christian gatherings to challenge the stubborn structures of religion that can so easily leave us 'well-taught but still caught' in the sticky webs of western Gentile / Greek religiosity that we have never thought to question because ... we have never thought! Although I'm sure it's not the intention of organisers or speakers or the 'punters', I think that the effect all too often is to provide 'entertainment for the troops' that ensures them a good meal but essentially changes nothing and leaves moribund structures unchallenged. Not so Foundations!

by Mark Durie - 16th November 2015 ((c) Lapidomedia)

LEADING commentator Janet Daley's article in Saturday's Telegraph ‘The West is at war with a death cult’ stands for everything that is woeful about European elites’ response to Islamic jihad.

Why do Irish people support the Palestinians? It’s a simple question, but a real mystery. If, as seems clear to me, every supporter of democracy and opponent of non-democracy should broadly support Israel — and be broadly hostile to the Palestinian cause — why does the world not see it that way?

An Israeli diplomat posted to Ireland recently asked me this question. Israelis encounter varying levels of hostility in Europe, and wonder why so many Europeans take the Palestinian side. Could it be anti-semitism? Could it even be that some hostility to Jews is endemic in Catholicism?

Living in Ireland it is obvious to me that other, more modern, reasons are at play.

The Palestinian cause is, on the face of it, deeply unattractive. It is a fight against a liberal democracy in order to set up either an oppressive religious state — Hamas — or a thuggish autocracy — Fatah. Either way, there are unlikely to be free elections and regard for civil liberties. So what is it that attracts people’s support?

It seems they hit all the right buttons. First, they are, allegedly, the “oppressed” fighting against “oppressors”. Yet, when you look at Palestinian complaints, they are mostly a consequence of the violence they direct at Israel.

They are, allegedly, the “poor” fighting the “rich”. The fact that it is their fault they are poor — look at what the intifada did to the GDP — and the Israelis deserve their wealth because they work hard to create it, is neither here nor there.

They are, allegedly, “non-whites” fighting “whites”. Many westerners care primarily about crimes by “whites” or “people like us”, not those by “non-whites”. Israelis come from all over the world, including the Middle East, but for many westerners this is not about reality. All Israelis are honorary “whites”.

Palestinians are Muslim, giving them a sympathetic constituency of 1bn worldwide. Muslims tend to sympathise with Muslims engaged in conflict with non-Muslims. Christians aren’t like this. Christians worldwide are on their own, and get little support from western Christians. If the Palestinians were Christian, nobody would support them. And if they were fundamentalist Christians, the western left would despise them.

It should be no surprise that journalists side with Palestinians. They are fighting a democracy, and a wealthy democracy is a nice safe place in which journalists can sit and be critical.

Some Palestinians are violent, and carry out deliberate attacks against defenceless civilians. But if Palestinians engaged exclusively in peaceful protest, few would pay them much attention. When there are attacks against civilians, the world sits up. Most are revolted, but some less sensible people have a different reaction. They believe — despite history’s total lack of evidence for this — that if someone is willing to carry out violent acts, they must have a good reason. And so, due to the strange nature of humans, Palestinian violence leads to more support, not less.

Many westerners are excited by “revolutionary” violence against the West. Lack of compromise is also exciting. If the Palestinians decided to give up on the “struggle” and pursue jobs, family and shopping, I would be delighted for them. Israel would pump money into their economy, the GDP would triple and their life would be much better. But some of their western fans, for whom they serve a psychological need, would seek other uncompromising opponents of the West.

Hating Israel is a safe way of hating the West, and many leftish westerners do desire a safe way of doing this; of declaring their moral superiority to the culture of plenty in which they grew up. Hating the entire West is too hardcore, but hating a small part works. It is Israel’s bad luck to fit the bill.

So the Israeli diplomat and other Israelis should not take Irish hostility personally. It’s not about them. It’s about us.

The last of my 3 blogs from Poland and despite the angst expressed in my first two, I did in the end make the journey to Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was still pretty much a last-minute decision but as I wandered through Krakow’s impressive and beautiful Old City I found myself praying about whether or not to visit the infamous death camps. Then I turned a corner and find a small random travel agency selling tickets to the very places and so the next day…I was off.

So you finally learned to play the guitar and now you’re wondering, “How do I write a truly awful worship song?” You’ve come to the right place, my friend. Here are some surefire ways to write a truly horrible worship song.

1. Recycle a Love Song.

Write a song for your girlfriend. When she breaks up with you, convert it into a worship song. Be sure to change all uses of “girl” or “baby.”

2. Use Time-Tested Rhymes.

Make sure you rhyme “love” and “above” at least twice. The song becomes doubly awful if you can also incorporate the word “dove.” Example: “You sent your love from above, makes my heart feel like a pure white dove.” You get the point.

3. Be Vague About Your Theology.

Make sure to avoid any theology at all costs. Don’t talk about atonement, wrath or any other biblical concepts. You want your song to be all about feeling. Don’t let the mind get in the way. Repeat after me: “Worship is a warm feeling, sort of like heartburn, only better.”

Over the years there has been an ever-growing increase in the interest of African Spirituality within the black community, which in part has been fueled by the continuous racial inequality we see in today's society, the use of the Christianity to justify slavery and a lack of answers from the black churches on various bible-related subject matters. This has led to what can be referred to as the ‘conscious’ movement.

As a younger Christian I served with Open Doors in the Middle East which was an amazing privilege both to serve and engage with believers from cultures vastly different to my own. However my greatest surprise was to find how many evangelical Christians in countries like Syria, Egypt and Turkey had adopted a western church culture. For example at my first visit to a small evangelical fellowship I was astounded to see all the men had discarded their very practical daily clothing in favour of western suits and ties - in 40' C. No wonder local Muslims viewed Christianity as a western religion. Where did they get the idea that to do church properly you have wear a suit and tie?  It is not my place to challenge anyone else's 'norms' but it did and does make me think about my own. What do I consider to be necessary, what can be changed; why do I do what I do, and, by implication, expect others to do?

The following "Letter to an Anti-Zionist Friend" is held by some to be an actual letter from Dr. King to an acquaintance, others say it is a compilation of his statements. ". . . You declare, my friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist.' And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth. "Anti-semitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agreement. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently antisemitic, and ever will be so. "Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land.

As it's still fresh in my mind, here are some thoughts before they drift away. Foundations 8 was, by unanimous consensus, our best yet. Here are four reasons why I believe this was so.

Firstly the environment provided by Abbot Hall hotel was just right for us. The hotel may have been on the small side, but it provided the intimacy that was a major factor to the fantastic atmosphere of unity and co-operation that prevailed. The staff were incredible and so helpful, going far beyond the nominal service we have received at some other places we have been at. Secondly the structure of the conference worked really well, particularly the elements that provided for personal expression. The high points were the yeshivas that involved up to a half of delegates and last for up to 90 minutes - challenging times for our teachers, but an invaluable experience for all. Also the 'show & tell' hour each day was enormously successful, where seventeen people were able to share what was on their heart, from leeks to hobbies, reminiscenses to hints for godly living. The image of the 'Von Stevenson' family singing together will live long in the memory. Finally, the craft tables provided a valuable oasis for some, a trigger for great conversations and a wonderful outlet for creative impulses!

Thirdly, God had brought together a fantastic group of people. The teaching, spearheaded by our 'Bible men' David Andrew and Chris Hill, was not just excellent but, as the theme of the conference demanded, was a spur to action and will ensure that what happened at Abbot Hall will not stay at Abbot Hall! My team stretched to 30 people, each playing their part in the jigsaw but it was fair to say that everyone there contributed in one way or another. There are just too many examples to mention here. If you were there please send us your testimonies!

Finally we thank God for tying it all together and ministering to everyone who was there perhaps in ways that will only become apparent over the coming days. A lot of work went into this conference, it was all so worth it!

Following the original Christ At The Checkpoint in 2010, the Rosh Pina Project began highlighting the anti-Jewish aspects of the conference. We broke the story in 2011 – which was eventually picked up by Bnei Brith and then the international press – that Palestinian pastor Mitri Raheb had claimed Israeli Jews have no Jewish blood, and Palestinians were descended from King David. We also opposed Christ at the Checkpoint by highlighting how two speakers called for a Christian jihad in 2010, whilst affirming  that Hamas has “every right to attack the West.” We suggested that for many, this conference was an opportunity to lend Christian theological support for terrorism ...

In this short video, Dr Joe Boot calls Christians to practise evangelisation. He says that some evangelism has taken a "truncated" view of the gospel, speaking of personal salvation but lacking an emphasis on "Christ as Lord, as King, as Sovereign." Jesus has come to redeem every aspect of our lives "from the pollution of sin", Joe says, and we ought not only to speak, but also to "live out" the gospel as part of our Christian witness.

The preservation of Israel and the preservation of the Nazarene are one phenomenon.” This line mulled over in my head as I sat in the back seat of our big blue van. The van twisted, turned, and trudged through the hillside as we made our way toward the heartland of Israel. I had just finished reading Sholem Asch’s book One Destiny in which he addresses the unique relationship between Judaism and Christianity, centered on the Messianic hope present in both religions. I could not help but connect the preservation of this beautiful land out my window to the people of Israel. The road directed our path through the many Arab and Israeli villages that live in constant tension. Sadly, most of the world does not see the beautiful surrounding area. Judea and Samaria have been in the news a lot lately as our people have been under threat of stabbing attacks from terrorists. While the threat is real, there is no place on earth that brings more peace to your soul than the land God promised and gave to his people.

We women, for good or ill, are a very powerful force. Proverbs 14:1 tells us that a wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands. And if you can convince a lot of women, all at once, to tear down our houses in unison, we are capable of tearing down an entire nation. And this, sadly, is what the women in America have been busily doing for the last century and more.

In the early years of demolition, the cultural damage wasn’t quite as obvious. Lots of women assumed (and some still assume) that the feminist cause was nothing more than a much-needed re-model — the kind with “Pardon our Dust, Improvements in Progress” signs tacked up here and there

But we’re a good ways into the project now, and it’s beginning to be clear that “the women’s movement” was actually a wrecking crew. The body count is now 58 million, the idea of public decency is long gone, our moral compass has vanished, and our nation is clearly adrift. So far adrift, in fact, that those fighting hardest against the system don’t even recognize that the enemy they’re currently fighting is the direct result of their own previous efforts. The feminist outrage against Trump’s lewd comments and flagrant immorality is somewhat incongruous, given that this moment was made possible by the previous feminist victories over anti-obscenity laws and their insistence on the rights to “consequenceless” sex.(Article by Rebekah Merkle)

WASHINGTON — An effort to build a free online database of Holocaust victims and survivors has reached a milestone. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum and Ancestry.com announced Friday that records of one million people persecuted by the Nazis are now available to be searched. The crowd-sourced database was launched in 2011 and is known as the World Memory Project. Volunteer contributors from around the world have been indexing materials from the museum’s archive so people can be added to the database and searched easily by name.

Dear Prime Minister, It was sickening to see that your government last week voted for the declaration of diplomatic war against Israel embodied in resolution 2334 passed by the UN Security Council. Bad enough that Britain didn’t use its position as a permanent SC member to vote against this vicious resolution and thereby stop it in its tracks. Worse, far worse was that your government voted for it. In doing so, Britain signed up to propositions that repudiate law, justice and truth. Now reports have surfaced that, yet more appallingly, Britain was actually instrumental in getting 2334 passed by helping draft the resolution and then stiffening New Zealand’s resolve in proposing it. I don’t know whether that is correct. I suspect it may well be. I think, nevertheless, that you spoke from the heart the other week when you told the Conservative Friends of Israel of your admiration for Israel as a “remarkable country” and a “beacon of tolerance” and your warm feelings towards the Jewish people.

While the blood of innocents was being mopped up off a theatre floor in France, a video titled, “A father and son have the most precious conversation,” goes viral. In the clip the boy tells his father, “We should leave Paris because Les Mechants (the villains) have guns and they will come to shoot us.” The father reassures his son that although the villains have guns, they (the French) have flowers and candles. “Do the flowers and candles protect us?” asks the son. When the father answers in the affirmative, the boy protests, “but flowers don’t do anything!” He is given a reassuring hug by his father and the clip is concluded by the interviewer asking the child if he “feels better,” to which the boy nods and breaks into a smile.

On one end of the scale, we are all aware of the growing number of believers (in our case - especially from Arab origin) who want to be accepted and acknowledged by their own people so much that they have adjusted their theology accordingly. Some even coming to an extreme position, defending Muslim terrorists and debunking Israel’s right to defend itself, and all in the name of Jesus.

Here is a book written to stir the heart of the average citizen of today’s world by challenging them to think beyond the here and now. It pulls no punches as it provides a creeping crescendo of revelation regarding man and his relationship with God and how the Church has mostly failed in its mission to mirror the image of Jesus.

Some early reviews:

"Just read Hope. Great job. It's excellent. Thank you so much for writing it", Pastor Jon Cluett, The Church at Stirling

"I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was amazing how Steve managed to pack in so much about science, 'isms', philosophies, man-made theories and everything else under the sun and more importantly Christianity" Jack Sneddon, deacon of Bellshill Baptist Church

"I just want to say how struck I am by 'Hope' - a copy of which David gave me. I so enjoy the engaging way you write, taking the time to connect with the world of the reader and gently introduce your theme. I'm only a few chapters in, but feel I could learn a lot that might apply to my preaching ministry. So thank you, and please be encouraged" Kieran Banks, pastor of Bellshill Baptist Church

"Your latest book is amazing. Written for every Christian … Thank you. The challenge is how to get the message out"  Mike Webb, Quinta Conference Centre

Steve's new book is now available for £4 a copy, or 5 for £10.

This was a greatly anticipated conference, not least because of the spiritual battles leading up to it, including a major health scare and the best efforts of Storm Doris to trhwart us (one effect of this actually featured on Sky News as Stella, our delegate from Cyprus arrived in a plane severely pommelled by the angry winds to an extent that its initial landing on the runway was aborted!).

The conference went swimmingly well (some even actually went swimming in the heated indoor pool!), helped by the excellent facilities and helpful staff at Abbot Hall hotel. The conference was kicked off by David Jones' poignant and clever presentation of the wide reach of anti-Semitism in the Church and politics, accompanied by a music video of a Song for Israel by his talented wife, Jo, our main worship leader. You can hear it here. The Saturday featured three talks, spread through the day, with the first two followed by a yeshiva, giving people a chance to 'grill the speakers'. The first and last presentation was by 'Bible man', David Serle, with a masterclass of Bible exposition, presenting a good case for re-examining the Gospel in the light of Israel and the Jews and giving us fresh ideas and much to think about. Wedged inside the 'Serle sandwich' was John Bidwell's excellent description of God's covenants. As usual 'Freedom in the Spirit' provided the structure for the day with crafts, prayer walks, dance, Bible readings and the quiet room all being well attended. During the day a dance team and a choir were recruited and trained.

On the Sunday, the dance team, led by Ginnie and Rosie, performed a short drama that had veryone in tears, with a visual re-enactment of the importance of aliyah for the Jewish people. The choir performed Jo's song and another one, followed by messianic worship led by David & Keila, finishing off with a time of testimonies and worship lead by Jo. It was a fantastic time of fellowship, with a very special bunch of people. One delegate remarked that the weekend was more of a Christian house party than a conference. Most were in agreement, as they all went on their way with smiles on their faces.

David Wilkerson - In One Hour Everything is Going to Change. The prophet Isaiah warns us that in the last days God is going to “turn the world upside down.” He declares, “Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down” (Isaiah 24:1). According to this prophecy, sudden judgment is coming upon the earth, and it will change everything in a single hour. Within that short span, the whole world will witness fast-falling destruction upon a city and a nation, and the world will never be the same.

On an unseasonably warm Washington morning in November 1942, Peter Bergson sipped his coffee and leafed through the latest editions of the New York Times and the Washington Post. It was a habit he’d acquired since arriving in America nearly two years earlier, as a 25-year-old Palestinian Zionist on a mission to raise awareness, and money, for the establishment of a Jewish military force to join the Allies’ war against Hitler.

Yet when he spotted a brief news item, tucked away on an inside page of the Post, he knew that mission was over. The headline read: “Two million Jews slain, Rabbi Wise asserts.” The reference was to a news conference the previous evening by Rabbi Stephen Wise, American Jewry’s foremost spokesman and leader. It was the first public confirmation of the Nazi Holocaust. For Bergson, his Jewish army campaign now seemed utterly, obscenely, irrelevant.

Over the next several years, he and a small band of supporters worked tirelessly to publicise the slaughter of the Jews of Europe, determined to bring popular and political pressure on President Franklin D. Roosevelt to save those Jews who were still alive. That this meant confrontation with the Roosevelt Administration was inevitable. Roosevelt’s view was that there could be only one American war aim: to defeat Hitler’s armiies.

The Last Supper, traditionally commemorated on Maundy Thursday, is a vital part of the Easter story. It introduces us to Holy Communion, the memorial instigated by Jesus to remind us of his identity and purpose. The context of this event was the seder service of the Jewish Passover, which Jesus had come to the house in Jerusalem to celebrate with his disciples.

In this small booklet you have all that you need to re-create this service, primarily following the script indicated in the Gospel accounts, but always in the context of the events of the Exodus, the backdrop of the Passover celebration. You are shown how to set up the table and prepare the elements and how to follow the narrative either as a small family setting around a dining table, or in a church hall with groups of tables. You will find that you will be both blessed and entertained as you re-live these momentous events. Order your copy here

This is the final morning of our Foundations East Anglia weekend conference at Belsey Bridge in October 2016. It will give you a flavour of what happens at our conferences.

TO HEAR THE MP3

We are making all Foundations audios free to download, including all teaching sessions. The point we want to make about this is that our conferences are about the experience of God and fellowship with others, not just about the teaching. The essence of Foundations can't be bottled up and downloaded - you just have to be there! To find out more, click here.

Hezekiah is affirmed in Scripture as doing “what was right in the Lord’s sight” (2 Kings 18:3). The next verse details what Hezekiah did: “He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made, for the Israelites burned incense to it up to that time” (2 Kings 18:4).Surely people understood a strong, spiritual leader removing the idols (the high places and the Asherah poles) that grabbed the hearts of the people and stole worship from the Lord. They would expect their spiritual leader to insist they stop worshiping other gods. But what Hezekiah did next must have been really unexpected and really controversial. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses made—intentionally. Not by accident. Not “I was carrying it and it fell.” To break bronze takes some effort.

Joint statement from Andrea Williams, Chief Executive of Christian Concern, and Member of General Synod and Rev. Dr. Joe Boot, (M.A, Ph.D.) Director of the Wilberforce Academy and Senior Pastor of Westminster Chapel, Toronto following the Church of England's 'shared conversation'. It has been a troubling week for Western Anglicanism. The Canadian General Synod, after some bureaucratic confusion, carried a motion to accept recommendations for the full adoption of same-sex 'marriage' by the church – the decision will become canon law in 2019. There was no real shock here. The Anglican Church of Canada has long been in the vanguard of assaulting the orthodox teaching of the church on sexuality and revelling in their divisiveness. Here in the UK, the 'shared conversations' of the past two years culminated in a General Synod meeting at York University, where plenary sessions and small group work largely proved to be the stage-managed piece of theatre many were expecting

(By Daniel Juster) We are witnessing an abandonment of our faith by young adults who were raised in that faith. They go to college, and within a few years many are gone. Why? Some while back, a study noted that many effective evangelists experiencing the power of God, afterward went to Christian colleges and seminaries and were no longer effective! This study was many years ago but greatly influenced Loren Cunningham, the founder of Youth with a Mission. He was so concerned about it that he started his own school in Hawaii, The University of the Nations, so that young people could be educated, but not lose their evangelistic passion. Today, Youth with a Mission is one of the largest mission organizations in the world with 20,000 missionaries.

Do you know there is a subject that if any UN official brought up, he or she would be mocked and instantly silenced? Have you heard that Jewish communities spread across Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) - some more than a century ago - but were destroyed by Arab marauders before Israel became a state?

Jewish pioneers chose those barren hills, built their homesteads and established communities - much like early Americans did in the 19th century. But unlike the unknown frontiers of America, Jews began coming back to Judea and Samaria and the Old City of Jerusalem including the areas of Zion and the pool of Siloam (Shiloach) where their ancestors had lived 2000-3000 years ago! But then, thriving Jewish communities were ethnically-cleansed by Arab forces in the early 20th century during the British occupation. Let me tell you some real stories about these "illegal settlements."

If you needed proof that America has lost it corporate mind, here are five compelling examples.

(BY MICHAEL BROWN) 1. In New York City, Cooper Union College has decided to remove all "gender markings" from its bathrooms.

As reported by The Guardian, "Last fall, the oldest building on the Cooper Union campus underwent a sudden renovation. A group of students, agitating for their transgender classmates, stripped the words 'men' and 'women' off the doors of the Foundation Building's restrooms." But rather than discipline the unruly students, "the Cooper Union administration this month moved to remove the gender designations from all the bathrooms on campus by taking down the rest of the men's and women's signage from bathrooms." Goodbye, men's and women's bathrooms! The school's website is actually boasting about all this, with the homepage headline declaring, "DE-GENDERED RESTROOMS ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION."

(From Melanie Phillips) An interview I did in 2011 on the “two-state solution” for Israel TV’s show Ro’im Olam is generating some fresh attention, thanks to an edited extract on Israel Video Network. You can watch the whole interview here, and the IVN extract follows on the page.

AMONG the most inexplicable developments in this bizarre political year is that Donald Trump is the candidate of choice of many evangelical Christians. Mr. Trump won a plurality of evangelical votes in each of the last three Republican contests, in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. He won the glowing endorsement of Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University, who has called him “one of the greatest visionaries of our time.” Last week, Pat Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, told Mr. Trump during an interview, “You inspire us all.”

In a recent interfaith video, Pope Francis argued that all religions worship God, whether we call Him God, Buddha, Jesus Christ or Allah. He then suggested we should lay aside our theological differences and all celebrate our Deity together. To quote him: “In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty that we have for all: we are all children of God.”

I couldn’t help thinking of Zerubbabel’s response to a similar invite to come together, this one by the enemies of Judah who’d offered to help rebuild the second temple. After they told him that “we like you, seek your God,” Zerubbabel replied: “You have nothing in common with us in building a temple to our God; but we ourselves will together build to the Lord God of Israel” (Ezra 4:1-3). Apparently, he didn’t consider them to be children of the same God Israel served.

While America’s evangelical Christians are rightly concerned about the secular worldview’s rejection of biblical Christianity, we ought to give some urgent attention to a problem much closer to home–biblical illiteracy in the church. This scandalous problem is our own, and it’s up to us to fix it.

The end-game has begun. America’s nightmare presidential election has entered its final agonizing throes. The latest opinion polls suggest that Donald Trump, badly damaged by the release of the 11-year-old tape of his lewd and offensive remarks about women, is unlikely to win. His second debate with Hillary Clinton last weekend, where he put in a much stronger performance than the first, doesn’t seem to have helped him. Women are now queuing up to claim he groped them and worse, accusations he says are lies. With any other candidate, it would be game over. Yet Trump has been written off many times before.

No one can predict this election result even now. People still don’t seem to understand the enormous insurrectionist dynamic behind Trump’s rise. Those who are firmly for Trump are in wholesale revolt against precisely the kind of people who tell them they can’t insult or demean women or others who are never held responsible for their own actions.

Indeed, the near-universal hysteria over the tape was hard to credit. Surely no one can be surprised that Trump turns out to be a crude sexual barbarian? What’s more, the frenzy is being fueled by people who brushed aside Bill Clinton’s sexual excesses as a “private matter” and ignored the way Hillary used threats to silence the women he had used.

Although Manny Pacquiao quickly apologized for his remarks about homosexuals, Nike dropped him like a hot potato. In contrast, Nike never dropped Tiger Woods despite the revelations of his serial adulteries, even though those led to the destruction of his marriage and worldwide public shame. Why the double standard?

Does Nike believe that it is far worse to make a passing, extremely derogatory comment about homosexuals—one for which Manny quickly apologized and asked forgiveness—than to betray one's children and cheat on one's wife, sleeping with a bevy of different women over a period of years (including several porn stars)?

Or could it be that, because Tiger is still worth more money, his transgressions are more forgivable?

As a young boy, I used to think my grandma very strange. In her bedroom she kept a suitcase, packed and ready for use at a moment’s notice. “Just in case,” she’d tell me when I asked where it was that she was always waiting to go to. “You never know when they’ll turn on the Jews.”

Her house in Northwood was epitome of suburban comfort, and I couldn’t understand what on earth she meant. Until, that is, I learned some history – including the history of the Jews. Which is, in short, that pretty much everywhere, they have turned on the Jews.

From my teens through my twenties and thirties, the fact that I am Jewish meant little to me beyond the Jonathan Miller sense of being Jew-ish. I adored beigels, matzoh balls, Seinfeld and Woody Allen more than your average gentile would think they deserved. And that was about it. If you’d asked me, I’d have told you that after the Holocaust, real, serious anti-Semitism – the sort where Jews were killed for being Jews, rather than the odd nasty comment – was a thing of the past, in civilised Europe, at least.

(by Dwight Pryor) n Matthew 6 we have what has become known as the Lord’s Prayer. More accurately it should be called the Disciple’s Prayer because it is a prayer that Jesus taught his disciples as a pattern for praying.

One of the great blessings of our biblical Jewish heritage as gentiles who have been grafted into God’s purposes and into God’s people is the heritage of prayer. Have you ever wondered as I have what kind of prayers were being said by the apostles and by Jesus? When they were in the upper room in Jerusalem and they were praying, in one accord, I wonder how were they praying and what were they praying.

As I began to study the Hebraic approach to prayer a few years ago, I came to understand that many Jewish prayers, including the principles and patterns of prayer, were quite well known. They were not just praying extemporaneously as we most often do. There were established patterns of prayers and there were written prayers that were said three times daily, for example. There was always the occasion for extemporaneous interjection, petition and praise, but there were also regular prayers. This Lord’s Prayer that Jesus uttered to his disciples incorporates many, if not most, of the key elements of Jewish prayer in the first century and it was so much a part of him.

How well does the average American understand basic Christian doctrine? For that matter, how about the average evangelical? Perhaps not all that differently. And perhaps it matters how the questions are asked. Reprising their ground-breaking study from two years ago, LifeWay Research and Ligonier Ministries released an update today on the state of American theology in 2016. Researchers surveyed 3,000 adults to measure their agreement with a set of 47 statements about Christian theology—everything from the divinity of Christ to the nature of salvation to the importance of regular church attendance.

Britain is one of the most racially tolerant countries on the planet, a survey claims. The global social attitudes study claims that the most racially intolerant populations are all in the developing world, with Jordan and India in the top five. By contrast, the study of 80 countries over three decades found Western countries were most accepting of other cultures with Britain, the U.S., Canada and Australia more tolerant than anywhere else.

A great deal has been written about the hysterical reaction to President Donald Trump. But what would these over-the-top protesters do if Trump proved to be a success? Would they admit they had been wrong?

A few days ago, I put this to someone in London. He looked at me in absolute horror. The question had simply never occurred to him. “He can’t possibly be a success,” he said in astonishment. “I agree he may become popular, which would be a nightmare for me. But no way is he not going to fail.”

You get a similar reaction amongst many deeply opposed to Brexit. Asked what they’ll do if it turns out to be a success they flatly reply that it’s simply impossible.

Well, these are truly remarkable powers of prophecy. All the more so since all predictions over Brexit and Trump have so far been proved wrong.

“On this day in Messianic Jewish history” brings you significant events in the life of Jewish believers in Yeshua, or events in the history of the Church and the Jewish people that have shaped Jewish expressions of faith in Yeshua, and impacted Jewish Christianity in the past and its contemporary expression in Messianic Judaism today.

I hate to tell you this, but you don’t understand the first thing about discipleship.

I was the same way. I had taught and written about discipleship for 30 years, and discipled many people both one-on-one and in small cadres. But recently I realized that my primary assumption about discipleship was wrong.

What am I talking about? I always thought that discipleship should immediately follow someone’s coming to Christ. In other words, I thought that discipleship followed evangelism. But I was wrong. Discipleship actually begins before someone comes to Christ! This is the biblical model. It is the one that works best. And, when we make this paradigm shift it changes everything.

While it’s true that someone who comes to Christ should be discipled—and I co-authored a great book for this, Beginning the Journey, that has sold over 100,000 copies in English and been translated into many languages—underneath this is a flawed assumption. Discipleship ideally does not follow evangelism. Discipleship actually begins before someone’s coming to Christ.

Let’s begin by looking at this biblically, and then we will look at it practically. ...

Timothy George highlights a revived trend in lifestyle choices in First Things, called "sologamy," which began over 20 years ago. George writes: "Sologamy is the marriage of someone to one's own self—the his- or herness of it is not relevant, although it seems to be mostly women who are doing it." Self marriage is not recognized in the U.S. or Europe, but nevertheless, more reports are surfacing of individuals marrying themselves.

They should be places where folk can really connect with each other, with God … and with themselves, all within the framework of solid Biblical teaching and an exploration of our Hebraic roots. They should be times where there is space for God to act, where there is freedom to explore, rather than acting as directed. We believe that the newly-launched Foundations Regional conferences can provide such a place. Have a quick read of these testimonies to see what God did at Foundations 7 national conference:

A few years have passed since I wrote the first Hashkama article.  At that time I was thinking of retiring and producing an article maybe two or three times a year.  I needed to give this little new project a title and a friend in Israel suggested the Hebrew word Hashkama.  It mean

A funny thing happened on the way to the revolution. On Saturday, thousands of earnest millennials – and better-humoured Gen-Xers pretending to be millennials – gathered in a field in Somerset for a concert. The headliner was an ancient rocker of an even older tune but the crowd cherished every word as their own – new, meaningful, of the moment.

They cheered. They applauded. They sang this year’s secular Te Deum: ‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn’, wailed to the tune of ‘Seven Nation Army’ by the White Stripes. And the snake oil flowed. Corbyn, a soft-spoken evangelist, testified and got them raptured up:

‘Politics is actually about everyday life. It’s about all of us: what we dream, what we want, what we achieve and what we want for everybody else. The commentariat got it wrong, the elites got it wrong. Politics is about the lives of all of us. The wonderful campaign I was a part of and led, brought people back to politics because they believed there was something on offer for them.’

They ululated their devotion and their shambling prophet beheld his fervid, nescient apostles. They are not fanatics, they protest, but fed up. They want change, rid of the Tories, a future for themselves. They are not seeking faith but hope. And yet here they are hollering their approval for a veteran Eurosceptic, a career politician committed to withdrawing from the EU, leaving the single market and ending freedom of movement. You cannot engage someone coming to Jesus on the physics of walking on water. They want Corbyn because he is honest and principled and will put an end to austerity. When George Osborne announced a further £9bn cuts to welfare in 2015, the Labour front bench ordered MPs to abstain. Corbyn rebelled and parlayed anger at the compromise into backing for his leadership campaign. Now he is committed to implementing £7bn of those very same cuts if he reaches Number 10. These are facts, but proof is no longer sufficient or relevant. No talking in church.

Hebraic Church? Now there’s a phrase designed to upset or confuse just about everyone. Yet being Hebraic is not what many in the Church imagines it to be. In fact it could be nothing less than the key for true restoration and revival.

Yesterday I watched a cricket match in my local park and I thought of the Church. A purposeful collective dressed in white striving together for a common goal? No, rather one group of people thrusting missiles at the other, hoping to score points against them!

There is a widespread but false belief that Mahmoud Abbas is finally prepared to accept the two-state solution proposed by the U.N. in November 1947 when it divided mandatory Palestine into two areas: one for the Jewish People; the other for the Arab People. The Jews of Palestine accepted the compromise division and declared a nation state for the Jewish people to be called by its historic name: Israel. The Arabs of Palestine, on the other hand, rejected the division and declared that they would never accept a state for the Jewish people and statehood for the Palestinian people. They wanted for there not to be a state for the Jewish people more than for there to be a state for their own people. Accordingly, they joined the surrounding Arab armies in trying to destroy Israel and drive its Jewish residents into the sea. They failed back then, but over the years, and to the current day, they continue to want no state for the Jewish people more than they want a state for Palestinian Arabs. That is why Abbas refuses to say that he would ever accept the U.N. principle of two states for two peoples. I know, because I have personally asked him on several occasions.

Rev Canon Dr John Higgins shares a remarkable real-life Romeo and Juliet story. It’s late May and our last day in Canada before we fly home to Scotland. We’re sitting on a bench on Granville Island, Vancouver taking in the warm afternoon sunshine and trying to eat large ice creams before they fall to the floor or rise skywards in the beak of some ever so attentive seagull. The 'we’ consists of myself, my wife Kay, and a young married couple we first encountered quite literally half a world away in 2012. I was working in Ankara, Turkey as the priest at the Church of St Nicolas of Myra, within the British Embassy complex. Among the growing number of refugees seeking out the church was a nervous young couple who had recently arrived from Iran. They were penniless, lost, and facing an uncertain future. They were also a modern day real-life Romeo and Juliet.

Rosemary Bamber reviews the latest of Steve Maltz's Hebraic roots conferences, which took place earlier in December.

Foundations Conferences are a new and interesting phenomena! Until recently, they have been 5-day conferences held annually (more or less) in the spring, at The Quinta in Shropshire. However, founder Steve Maltz and his team are now branching out with smaller weekend regional conferences. This year, the second of these took place at the beginning of December, in the comfortable, pleasant surroundings of Brunel Manor, Devon.

A large percentage of delegates had never been to a Foundations Conference before (I had previously been to three out of the seven held in Shropshire and so was considered to be a bit of an 'old hand'!). Testimonies now featured on the Saltshakers website show the things that delegates most appreciated:

A biblical rebuttal of the prosperity gospel. (In cartoon form)

(By Melanie Phillips)

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, appears to be a genuine supporter of Israel. In which case she needs to address the fact that her Foreign Office is not.

The Palestinians have been demanding that the British government apologise for the 1917 Balfour Declaration which supported “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”.

This declaration was embodied in the 1922 Mandate under which Britain accepted the administration of Palestine and the obligation to settle the Jews there.

The demand for an apology led to a British petition signed by more than 13,000 people. A few days ago the government dismissed it. “The Balfour Declaration”, it said, “is an historic statement for which Her Majesty’s Government does not intend to apologise. We are proud of our role in creating the State of Israel”.

Let’s put to one side that, in the 1930s, the British actually reneged on the Mandate, betrayed the Jewish people and instead of settling them in Palestine kept them out during the Holocaust. The statement dismissed the demand for an apology. So far, therefore, so good.

The second regional Foundations conference took place on December 2-4th 2016 at Brunel Manor. Just over eighty souls arrived in Torquay on a very sad day for the town (the death of Manuel - Andrew Sachs - Fawlty Towers) but that didn't deter us. If they didn't know it already (and 75% of them were new to us) they soon found out that Foundations is not like other conferences - on the first evening we were sitting in a tiered circle arrangement (thanks to Jo) and worship, led by the congregation, allowed us all to be in full view of each other. It was clear that a higher than average number of delegates were from a 'messianic' background, from the number of Hebraic songs that were instigated by them during the worship time and the fact that the morning prayer on Saturday was kicked off with the Shema!

Teaching was by the wonderful and engaging Jose de Silva, who took us through many aspects of Hebraic teaching of the life of Jesus, taking the book of Zechariah as his starting point. He was given four teaching slots, spaced out with room for response between each session. One aspect of this was the yeshiva, immensely popular and very noisy and lively, as scriptures were thrown around and a lot of hot air generated. There were also two prayer walks and continous Bible reading in the reception area, from the book of Isaiah. The craft & chat area was well attended, with candles being decorated and scriptural bookmarks and our great friend Colin (after a short trip to hospital!) produced a continuous stream of Hebrew translations of people's names on greetings cards. As well as all of this Carol and David were running a drama workshop and a choir was being gathered together, singing a song that Jo had only written a few hours earlier!

On the final morning the dancers danced and the choir sang, followed by lively worship by Jeremy and Shani (and David and Keila), followed by testimonies, prayer and healing ministry. Has so much ever been packed into one weekend without people being rushed and over-packed with knowledge. The word bandied about, as usual, was FREEDOM. Here are some testimonies:

"thank you for a lovely welcome, a very peaceful, free weekend with plenty to choose from, no pressure at anytime" Stephanie

"a very relaxed, but organised and friendly conference. A lovely atmosphere" John

"dedication of the organisers and a sense of oneness of participants, freedom to express oneself with new and innovative ways to explore, genuine love for the Lord and a desire to please, worship and obey Him" Anita

"the friendliness. The Holy Spirit leading, the gathering together of like hearts and minds" Cheryl

"relaxed atmosphere, genuine fellowship, opportunity to express gifts, free worship, excellent teaching" Colin

"gaining a deeper understanding of God's word through the excellent teaching, meeting some extraordinary giants in the faith" Bev

“Finally, there are some famous words you can find stamped on the bottom of a product,” said Lord Coe, in his speech at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. “Words, that when you read them, you know mean high quality, mean skill, mean creativity. We have stamped those words on the Olympic and Paralympic Games of London 2012: ‘London 2012 – Made in Britain’.”

The Olympic and Paralympic Games were indeed made in Britain in 2012, but the Paralympic Games have their entire origin in Britain in the 1948 Olympiad, being the first organised athletic competition for the disabled in history. It was the brainchild of Dr Ludwig Guttmann of Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire, whose aim “was to create an elite sports competition for people with disabilities”. The 1948 Stoke Mandeville Games or ‘International Wheelchair Games’ might have been an amateurish attempt to rehabilitate our war-wounded, and limited to those with spinal injuries to the exclusion of congenital defects, but it was a start, and it was a British initiative.

LET'S RECLAIM CHRISTMAS
With this free, original, family resource.

A FRESH NEW WAY TO CELEBRATE THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS

DOWNLOAD "THE CHRISTMAS TELLING" NOW

For many, the original Christian meaning of Christmas has been lost among the tinsel, revelry and mammon overkill. What still remains can be tinged by nostalgic ritual or even over-familiarity. Where is the birth of our Messiah among this? Where is the clear image of the miracle of the Incarnation? Is there a way to reclaim the core events and understanding among the noise that surrounds it? Or should we just wipe our hands of it and concede defeat to our secular society, which has hijacked it and converted it into a festival of over-indulgence?

Peter Sammons reviews the One New Man Bible - a 2011 translation by William J Morford. The One New Man Bible (ONMB) is a helpful modern translation by William J Morford, an American bible translator and Hebraic specialist. It aims to bring greater understanding of, and appreciation for, the power given to believers for their daily walk. In the words of its Preface: "The One New Man Bible...makes the Jewish roots of Christianity come to life" having been "edited from a public domain English translation. The English has been brought up to date and many words previously translated according to tradition have been changed to the literal. The New Testament is the Power New Testament, a fresh translation of the Fourth Edition United Bible Society Greek Text. An effort has been made to keep the text as free as possible from denominational biases and doctrinal interpretations".

In an age of competing voices and growing awareness of the Hebraic roots it is now necessary to be absolutely clear what we stand for. We have one abiding ministry aim and that is to glorify God by introducing the wider Church to the Hebraic roots that has been lost to it for centuries and to address the reasons for this historical neglect.

To do this we must be relevant and uncompromising in order to communicate effectively to an audience that is, by default, suspicious of our motives. This suspicion has two elements. The first is the historical situation best illustrated by the following sentiment – what gives us the authority to query the teachings and attitudes of our leaders and theologians, particularly those who came before us in the past? The second is a fear, sadly fed by some existing Hebrew Roots teaching, that embracing one’s Hebrew Roots is somehow locking us into a legalistic system, perhaps even sucking us into a form of Judaism.

The truth is that the Church has historically had an awful record of antagonism towards the Jews, resulting in a rejection of anything deemed Jewish and swapping the mindset of Jesus with a pagan one fed from Greek philosophy. Also, many Hebrew Roots teachers have failed to pick up on the liberating truths of the restoration of this mindset and, instead, have dwelt on externalities of traditions and rituals. This has given a false picture of what God has really intended for His Church, with respect to the One New Man of Ephesians 2.

We at Saltshakers are attempting to create a balance that we call Hebraic Church. It is a reclamation of the true Hebrew roots of the faith, as driven by the mindset of Jesus and the early believers. But, also, it doesn’t reject Gentile elements for the purposes of instructing the Church without antagonising it, illustrating restored truths without dwelling on wrong teachings and attitudes. It’s about presenting a fresh slate, quarried from a deep pool, but also trimming away some grime that has been picked up on the way.

For instance we have no problems with the name of Jesus, though we would probably prefer the more authentic name, Yeshua. Also, we are aware of the pagan derivations of Easter and Christmas but would not condemn those who partake in these festivals with a pure heart. The purpose of marketing our booklets with the name of “The Christmas Telling” and “The Easter Telling” is simply one of communication to our target audience. It is no different to Peter’s different approach to the way he presented his message to the Jews (Acts 2:14-36) and the Gentiles (Acts 10:34-43). It’s about connecting with your audience without diluting the truth.

It is all about communication. If it is our mandate to instruct the Church to embrace its Hebraic roots then our attitude and use of terminology is important, particularly in our current age of information overload, where misunderstandings abound. We need to embrace our Christian brothers and sisters in love and help them to move beyond the mistakes of the past and the confusions of the present and walk in the real blessings and liberating truth that come from the Hebraic foundations of their faith.

The Saltshakers team

(By Steve Maltz) This subject has engaged my brain since 2008, when I started work on a manuscript that examined the influences that Greek thinking has had on the Church. This was published the following year as How the Church lost the Way and thus began a journey that has so far spanned seven further books and shows no sign of slowing down! It really is some journey, as God had pulled me into the confusing but liberating world of the Hebraic and my life has not been the same since.

I had entered a mine-field because what God was revealing to me was that being Hebraic was an internal condition of the mind, rather than the external trappings of Jewish culture. This has placed me at odds with mainstream Hebraic expressions, particularly those that have crossed the ocean from our American friends. I have become firmly convinced that the Hebraic element that surely must find its eventual expression in the One New Man of Ephesians 2:11-18, is a mindset rather than a set of practices, however Biblical they may be. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with keeping Sabbath, the feasts and the Torah, but it should always be with Romans 14 in mind, when considering the rest of God’s people.

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
(Romans 14:10-13)

Being Hebraic is to admit that one is on a journey and not at a destination. It’s a tricky journey as history, culture and religion acts against us, embedded as they are in the Greek mindset, a way of thinking borne out of the mind of man rather than the Heart of God. I am pleased to say that this is very much a shared journey, you are not (necessarily) reading the ramblings of a self-deluded lunatic. There is a growing band of other “lunatics” who are adding to this debate, focussed on the Foundations ministry that is slowly growing in its own quiet way.

Being Hebraic is to accept that although there are non-negotiable absolutes, centred around the entry requirements for God’s Kingdom, much that exercises our minds are not as clear cut as we may imagine them to be and our task is to be able to live and accept others who may disagree with our interpretation. Being Hebraic, in line with Jesus and other rabbis, is to ask questions, to open up our minds, rather than arguing over doctrine, which is an important exercise in defining tenets of our faith but, sometimes, can serve to close up minds, when our arguments are fuelled by hot air and intransigence. It has been said that there is no such thing as theology (or any other ‘ologies’) in Judaism as God and His ways are taken as a given, rather than something to be dissected and analysed, but, on the other hand, it continues to fail to accept the Jewish messiah! This is not to say that being Hebraic is to know all the answers, in fact it is more like the acknowledgement of the exact opposite. We don’t have all the answers, but that shouldn’t stop us from asking questions, with a view to finding some answers.

There are some very important questions that we are now starting to ask. One of them is the issue of Israel and the Jews. We are convinced that it is a far more central issue than the Church realises (or accepts), involving the sacredness of God’s covenants with His people. It is not a fringe issue, as many believe and the Church lies helplessly strangled by the promises and threats of Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;” Those who consider themselves on a “Hebraic path” should treat this as a serious matter and, despite the baggage and ignorance of the mainstream Church on these matters, should seek to be positive agents of change. It is a better witness to the Church (and arguably to unsaved Jews too) to find ways to communicate Hebraic understandings sensitively and relevantly, rather than from the refuge of the congregational ghettos we have constructed for ourselves. Yes, we know they don’t get us, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to open their minds.

Being Hebraic is to bring God back to the centre of His church. It is to accept Jesus in his culturally Jewish setting. It is to read the Bible as God’s gift of life to us, His primary means of communication to us and not a conduit of our own thoughts and ideas. It is to accept and seek to correct the past and present errors made by the Church in regards to the Jewish people. It is also to bring joy, life, hope and certainty back into the Church and to each member of it. It is to value each individual believer and accept that God has a unique plan for all of us and that the main stumbling block for most of us discovering this purpose are the Greek structures that infest the Church itself. Being Hebraic is to seek God, rather than find out what others tell us about God. It is about doing stuff rather than learning about stuff. It’s about being a good witness, walking the walk rather than talking the talk. It’s about being real, about living in man’s kingdom as a fully paid up member of God’s kingdom.

This is not a comfortable place to be because those old leaking wineskins are still embedded in our Christian landscape. This is not something new and trendy, it is the oldest thing of all. It is the mindset of those earliest Jewish believers as they met in houses and enjoyed unfettered freedoms, hope and joy. It is also the mindset of Adam before the Fall, when he had full communion with God and wasn’t separated from Him by the need for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Being Hebraic is to think like the first Century Jewish disciples, rather than acting like twenty first Century Jews. It is the most exciting way to live out your faith. Honest!

This short article was prompted by a question emailed by a lady who had just returned from our latest Foundations conference. She was wondering why we did not acknowledge the Sabbath as she expected us to. This was a good question and my answer is tied up in our ministry aim to communicate Hebraic understandings to the wider Church. For many, our conferences are their first tentative taste of the Hebraic and our aim is to introduce Hebraic thinking in the most sensitive and relevant way possible, bearing in mind the vast chasm that has resulted from the decision seventeen centuries ago to divorce the Church from its Hebraic roots. We aim to show the joy that can result in thinking and acting Hebraically and we do so through Davidic dance, messianic worship and a teaching programme that always includes material on Israel and the Jewish people. But we also do so through demonstrating the release into freedom they would experience by breaking free of Greek structures and starting to think and act with a Hebraic mindset. We often teach and demonstrate Biblical festivals and we have already covered Passover, Shavuot, Succot and Simchat Torah at various times. But we also sing the old Wesley hymns and the odd modern chorus. The aim is to show Christians that being Hebraic ought to be the normal Christian life and not a fringe add-on. It’s as the Church ought to have been, we believe, if Constantine hadn’t kick-started the travesty known as Christendom all of those centuries ago.

We have no issues with messianic believers who keep Sabbath, kosher, Torah and the festivals and we expect them to treat us in the same way. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and our ultimate goal is to be conformed more and more into his image. To do so requires acceptance of others and balance. After all, isn’t that the goal of One New Man, for Jews and Gentiles to find a way to worship together by sharing what they have in common and what they don’t have in common.

It is for this reason that I have written my latest book, Livin’ the Life. It is the latest in my “Hebraic” journey but is the first written for the wider Church, to give them a glimpse of what they have been missing all these years. The Church needs to wake up and the last thing it needs is for us to give it a bad night’s sleep. We are in a unique position at this moment in history. We can really make a difference, so let’s do so and put a smile on the face of God!

Well this is interesting.  I had got used to the standard response to terror.  I had thought that when 22 young people get blown up by a suicide bomber in Manchester we were meant to say that it made ‘no sense’, that it ‘wouldn’t change us’ and that ‘love’ must overcome ‘hate’.

I thought that when a crowd of people get run over and a policeman stabbed to death we were meant to say ‘We may never know’ what caused such an outrage.  And that when people slit the throats of Londoners while shouting ‘This is for Allah’ we agreed that only perpetrators themselves were responsible for such inexplicable actions?  At most, weren’t we just meant to rouse ourselves to a chorus of ‘Don’t look back in anger’ and move on?

Well what a very different standard applies when the victims are a group of Muslims exiting a mosque.  Since that despicable attack I have watched with astonishment as British Islamists and the British left who are so insistent that we should all refrain from ‘pointing fingers’ after any Islamist attack have taken both their fists out for this one.

This is a faith ministry. Monica and I rely mainly on donations to pay the bills. The book sales are not huge and provides income that is fed back into the ministry. At the moment we have nine regular monthly givers and would love to see this grow to around forty to fifty. If each gave between £10 and £50 then we would have enough to live on. Could you help us out in this way. We don't promise a hundredfold return and you get no free gift. Please pray about this and listen to the Lord's promptings.

There’s a reason that God commands all men everywhere to repent. It’s “…because He has appointed a Day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man Whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:31, italics added). We can have assurance that the Day of Judgment will take place and that Jesus will judge the earth—because of the resurrection. So should we then try and convince an unbelieving world of the resurrection? Many do, by pointing to the 500 witnesses who saw Him after He was raised, to the disciple who actually touched His side, to those who were willing to be martyrs for Christ, etc. But is Islam true because of its martyrs who give up their lives for their faith? What if someone doesn’t believe the Bible when it speaks of the 500 witnesses, etc.

British Jews and many other British nationals were shocked and dismayed with the outcome of last week’s general election in the UK.

Contrary to expectations, Prime Minister Theresa May emerged with a staggering defeat, and Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party — which dramatically increased its number of seats in parliament by almost 10% — ran almost neck and neck with the Conservative Party. May is now trying to maintain her minority government by aligning with the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland.

It is a horrifying prospect that Corbyn — a man who has publicly praised Hamas and Hezbollah as his “friends;” who attended a ceremony in Tunis commemorating the murderer of Israeli Olympic athletes; who was employed by the state-controlled Iranian TV to present programs; and who tolerated the proliferation of overt antisemitism in his party — nearly became prime minister.

It is mandatory upon all Muslims to support Israel and her right to exist in the holy land because the holy book of Islam, the Quran supports Israel. There are many verses in the Quran which support the divine right of Jews on the land of Israel but I want to quote only three to justify the right of the existence of Israel. The first verse of the Holy Quran stipulates:

“And We said thereafter to the Children of Israel, ‘Dwell securely in the Promised Land” (Quran: 17:104)

and the second orders the people of Bane-Israel to enter the Holy-Land:

“O my people (the Jews)! Enter the Holy Land, which God has assigned unto you”, (Quran: 5:21)

in the third verse, Allah Almighty order the children of Israel to scatter and says:

“And we said to the Children of Israel afterwards, ‘scatter and live all over the world… and when the end of the world is near we will gather you again into the Promised Land” (Quran:17:104)

Major media outlets in the US have ignored the leak of thousands of emails from billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundation by the activist hacker group DCLeaks. The OSF is the vehicle through which Soros has funneled billions of dollars over the past two decades to non-profit organizations in the US and throughout the world. According to the documents, Soros has given more than $30 million to groups working for Hillary Clinton’s election in November, making him her largest single donor. So it is likely the case that the media’s support for Clinton has played some role in the mainstream media’s bid to bury the story.

What is the only country about which can be said that its very existence is disputed? Clue: Not Zimbabwe, not Tuvalu, not even overrun Tibet. Which country's boundaries, bought with blood in wars initiated by others, are challenged by all nations, who now seem determined to destroy it through boycotts, unjust defamation and purported "laws" that are applied to no other nation? Which country fully respects the rights of women and every kind of ethnic, religious and sexual minorities, notwithstanding that it is condemned at the United Nations for being "the worst violator of women's rights" -- worse than Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, China, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Sudan?

19 June 1269: Louis IX issues fine against Jews found not wearing identifying badge

180px-Juif

France. (Saint) Louis IX of France orders all Jews found in public without a badge (French: rouelle or roue, Latin: rota) to be fined ten livres of silver. The enforcement of wearing the badge is repeated by local councils, with varying degrees of fines, at Arles 1234 and 1260, Béziers 1246, Albi 1254, Nîmes 1284 and 1365, Avignon 1326 and 1337, Rodez 1336, and Vanves 1368.

It’s both a continent and an idea, with an alternately heroic and ignominious past and, until recently, an enviable present. Can the heart of the West survive the 21st century?

(By Alan Dershowitz) I just returned from a visit from several university campuses during which I spoke about the Israeli-Palestine conflict. On these and other campuses anti-Israel students commemorate the Palestinian Nakba. They call this the Day of Catastrophe on which the Palestinians were deprived of their homeland and were made refugees from their birthplace. They compare their catastrophe to the Holocaust. Perhaps out of deference to the suffering of the Palestinian people, Pro-Israel students generally say nothing in response to these Nakba commemorations. The impression is thus created that everyone agrees that this was indeed a catastrophe inflicted by Israel on the Palestinians. The time has come to reply to this canard and to place it in its historical context.

By now, most of us are familiar with the concept of “social justice warriors” – left-wing liberals who support trendy politics such as transgender LGBTI issues, /wealth distribution, Marxist economics, identity politics, multiculturalism, “progressive” values, anti-Israelism, anti-Westernism, and support for “anti-imperialist” regimes in places like Syria and Iran. Now social justice warriors have found their prayerful equivalents in the “Red Letter Christians” movement – ostensibly spearheaded by the triumvirate of Shane Claiborne, Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo, who also familiar politicised voices in the Emerging Church movement.

(By Michael Brown) If you've read the Gospels, you know that Jesus taught that the two greatest commendments are that we love God with all of our heart, soul and strength and that we love our neighbor as ourselves (see Matt/l 2235-40).

What do we do when there's a perceived conflict bwtween the two and when it feels as if we have to decide between loving God or loving our neighbor?

On the one hand, the Scriptures teach plainly that allegiance to God always comes first, to the point that we have to side with Him even against our own families if they turn away from the Lord (in the Old Testament, see Deuteronomy 13:6-11; in the New Testament see Matthew 10:34-37).

On the other hand, the Word warns us against hypocritical religion, challenging those who claim to love God (whom they cannot see) while failing to love their brother or sister in the Lord (whom they can see; 1 John 4:20).

A well-known, though already controversial, Israeli rabbi recently released a video encouraging his followers that Messianic Jews sharing the Gospel deserve the “death penalty.”“Whoever incites to idolatry, his punishment is death,” stated Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi. “And whoever follows him also deserves death!”

“At several steps on their path to death by beheading and crucifixion last month, 11 indigenous Christian workers near Aleppo, Syria had the option to leave the area and live. The 12-year-old son of a ministry team leader also could have spared his life by denying Christ…”

The Christian Aid Mission account of the fate of Aleppo’s indigenous Christian missionaries is harrowing and humbling. While Western politicians debate whether or not to risk World War III by creating a safe haven in northern Syria and imposing a no-fly zone over Aleppo – with the expectation (/certainty) of US/European forces, sooner or later, having to shoot down a Russian bomber or Syrian fighter jet – we’re hearing a lot about Assad’s (lesser) evil, ISIS barbarism and the pervasive demonic contempt for the human spirit. Women are stoned, men burned alive, girls raped and gays hurled from tall buildings. It is an image of hell.

We’re not hearing much about Aleppo’s Christians: the mainstream media don’t care very much what happens to them:

How is Jesus revealed from Genesis to Revelation?

The Bible is about Jesus. He is pictured or prophesied about in each of the 66 Bible books as well as in countless types in the lives of different characters in the Bible. Here is a breakdown of how He is pictured in each of the books...

By Melanie Phillips, November 10, 2016

It's been an average kind of week for Jews in Britain. Here are a few recent items which you may have read in the Jewish Chronicle.

A speaker at London's School of Oriental and African Studies claimed that Zionists were mobilising subversive power to "outlaw" criticism of their activities, "Zionism was a parallel movement to Nazism" and Zionists "conspired to try and increase antisemitism in order to force Jews to Palestine".

Sheffield Hallam University in South Yorkshire was ordered to compensate a disabled Jewish student for failing to address his complaints about rampant Jew-hatred and Israel-bashing on campus.

He had complained about social media posts written by Sheffield's Palestine Society which included the blood libel that Israel harvests the organs of Palestinians, compared Bethlehem to the Warsaw Ghetto and referred to Zionists as Nazi criminals.

A Facebook group for UK Independence Party supporters suggested there was a Jewish conspiracy behind last week's High Court ruling against the Government over leaving the EU.

Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” The first question I have whenever I read this is: “Can I as a 21st century Christian Gentile, not a Jewish person and not living when it was written — not being Joshua — can I take a promise made to Joshua and apply it to myself?” My answer is yes for three reasons.

It's well known that Christianity sprang from a Jewish context. While there may be controversy about Jesus' Judaism vs. the traditional Judaism of the Sanhedrin, the ruling body of Judaism in the first century, there's no doubt that Jesus, his family, and followers were practicing Jews, as recorded in the New Testament. Biblical scholar Lawrence H. Schiffman, Judge Abraham Lieberman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and Director of the Global Network for Advanced Research in Jewish Studies at New York University (NYU), takes this understanding to a new level. He identifies citations in the New Testament that others have glossed over without recognizing their unique significance. On March 26-27, 2015, at a conference at NYU, "Integrating Christianity and Judaism into the Study of the Ancient World," Professor Schiffman delivered a talk titled "The New Testament as a Source for the History of the Jews and Judaism."

Yes, this is true. You would expect a culture shock, trying to fit a model that has only been tested with a group of middle-class 60-somethings, into a whole new ball-park - a group of 120 teenagers, as well as infants, juniors and youth leaders and pastors from the black-majority Redeemed Church of God (the fastest growing Church in the UK, I believe)

The model, which we are now calling "freedom in the spirit", is flexible enough to be tweaked and implemented in a variety of environments and circumstances, it seems. Monica and I were invited to conduct our "experiment" last Tuesday, helped by David Serle and a small dance team lead by Ginnie White. They didn't know what to expect - neither did we! They divided the kids into six groups of twenty, each led by a youth leader, which ensured that everyone was able to experience each of the six stations - dance, crafts, bible reading, discussions, confession/quiet room and drama. Most of it was outside and the sun shone throughout the day.

Paul Luckraft reviews ‘Livin’ the Life’

by Steve Maltz (SP Publishing, 2017)

According to the author this is his 21st book (p126), of which 18 are currently available. It is also the ninth to be reviewed on Prophecy Today UK. But this not just another shelf-filling addition to a growing list. Rather, it is the superb culmination of a nine-year exploration into the Hebraic and how it can and should impact the Church today.
As Maltz explains, it is an “attempt to summarise the journey so far and to provide us all with the tools to make a real difference in the way we understand and exercise our faith” (p223).

A Book to be Lived Out

But this is no mere ‘attempt’. It is extremely successful in recalling familiar themes from previous books and developing the ideas they contain, as well as in pointing the way forward, providing what the author calls “a route to the higher peaks” (p17).

Later in the book, we discover practical and well-proven ways of experiencing all that the author has been expressing. This is not an academic treatise but a book to be lived out, in ways available to all who are prepared to accept that something needs to change, and that ‘thinking differently’ is the key starting point.

The book is expertly conceived and well-written in Maltz’s own, highly readable style. We are treated to his usual touches of humour and adroit comments - though perhaps slightly less so than in earlier books, as Maltz realises the significance of his message. This is not an academic treatise, but a book to be lived out. The title, however, is typical Maltz, the apostrophe creating a neat double-edged meaning through aural ambiguity. Are we truly ‘living the life’? Do we honestly ‘live in The Life’ that is Jesus himself and which he offers to all his followers?

As a caveat, this post obviously doesn’t apply to every Messianic Jew who observes aspects of the Torah, but it may apply to some. It is based on some of my experiences as a two-parent Messianic Jew, and other two-parent Messianic Jews I know. This is a very anecdotal post, and I haven’t done any academic research, but hopefully it will resonate.

Now there is an observable difference between Messianic Jews and most people in the Jewish community. In the wider Jewish community, people are born into it, socialise within it, have Jewish family events and Shabbat every week, go to brisses, bar mitzvahs and Jewish weddings, and go to shul and participate in communal spiritual life. Basically, (and it sounds redundant but I’ll say it anyway), Jews can be Jewish.

The Messianic community however is rejected by the Jewish community, because of our faith in Jesus, which for most Jews puts us beyond the pale, so to speak. We’re part of a community that wants to be part of another community – namely the mainstream Jewish one. So in order to fit in, we adapt our theology to try to harmonise our faith with the practices of Judaism, to the greatest extent possible.

The Word:

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey--riding on a donkey's colt. (Zechariah 9:9)

As they approached Jerusalem and came to the Mount of Olives, Yeshua sent two talmidim saying to them, 'Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.' This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 'Say to Daughter Zion,'˜See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'

A very big thank you to you, Monica, José, Sarah and the rest of the team for another taste of heaven at the Foundations South West conference.  For me it was akin to arriving at Elim with its 12 springs of water after a long and thirsty walk through the wilderness! Once again, two of the greatest elements of the conference were the FREEDOM and the FELLOWSHIP.  In particular, the freedom to pray and praise spontaneously was a tremendous and freeing blessing.  In many church circles such spontaneous worship is, at best, considered a little odd, and, at worst, frowned upon and stamped out.  Praise the Lord for Foundations!  I particularly found great freedom in the messianic dancing – something that I would have been far too shy to try at any other conference – but at Foundations there is the freedom to do it.  Once again, I leave a Foundations conference with a chink taken out of my “fear” of man.  Hallelujah!  After a day and half of the Foundations experience, on Sunday morning, my heart was overflowing with love for my fellow Foundationers.  What a special bunch.  The Foundations experience allows the Spirit to move in mighty ways, enabling true and deep fellowship to be enjoyed between virtual strangers.  Some of the greatest work was undoubtedly done by the Holy Spirit in the one-on-one conversations – and praise the Lord that at
